NOKOMIS TRAIL

This 5 km loop is a moderate trail taking approximately one and a half to three hours to complete. A vigorous upward climb brings you to the first lookout. It offers an excellent view of the river valley and forests below. Travelling north, across a granite ridge, you will hike to spectacular lookouts over Lake Superior.. To the west is the Old Woman Bay cliff, rising 200 metres above the Lake. You may be able to see the face of an old woman, immortalized in the rock - perhaps it is Nokomis. To the Ojibwe, Nokomis was Grandmother. The trail descends past a series of lookouts and through a stand of stunted Red and Jack pine and returns to the trailhead, the sandy beach at Old Woman Bay.
