The Moose

The Moose. Moose tracks.
The Moose is the largest of all living deer. It can be found throughout Algoma and Northern Ontario feeding on woody matter, such as twigs and branches. It's typical overall length is 2.5 - 3 meters, or 8 to 10 feet and it can acheive heights at the shoulder of as high as 2.1 meters, or 6.5 feet! It is not easy to exaggerate the immensity of the Moose and tragically, it"s size has resulted in catastrophic collisions with highway traffic, leaving both the vehicles and the Moose totally demolished. As these animals often travel across roads at night, motorists should be alert and attentive when travelling at night in Algoma and Northern Ontario.
