The Pine Marten
This active and ferocious member of the Weasel family is also known for it's playfulness. The Pine Marten is agile, swift and deadly in it's hunting tactics and is equally at home on the forest floor as in the tree branches and trunks. Although it has a most insatiable curiousity, the Pine Marten is extremely difficult to observe in the wild, as much because of it's elusiveness as it's preference in inhabiting wilder areas. The Pine Marten prefers mature coniferous forests that contain numerous dead trunks, branches and leaves which would provide cover for it's favourite prey of rodents. It will usually eat squirrels, mice and voles, however it is an opportunistic feeder which would eat everything from berries, insects, eggs and carrion.
